derived from ultra-high resolution images of cryosectioned specimens,
including the Visible Humans. These patients are specifically designed for
real-time 3D clinical viewing through simulated ultrasound, fluoroscopy,
CT, and direct observation. Palpation and high fidelity tool interactions
with needles, scalpels, and drills are the hallmark of our simulations. We
are developing applications in orthopaedic, general, and ophthalmic
surgery, regional anesthesia, and rheumatology, on a common hardware
platform.

Verefi Technologies, Inc., with headquarters at 246 South
Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA., introduced its newest simulator
Head 2 Head for competitive and collaborative training for
minimally invasive surgery in April, 2006. Verefi also produces
EndoTower and RapidFire/SmartTutor, scientifically validated,
cost effective, and reliable virtual reality trainers that
focus on basic skills and individual elements of laparoscopic
surgery. RapidFire provides eight tasks to develop skills
related to the laparoscopic fulcrum effect, extrapolation
of 2-D environments to 3-D understanding, bimanual target
acquisition, and object transfer. SmartTutor keeps learners
in a zone of optimal learning with real-time adjustments to
either accommodate or challenge them. Integrated scoring systems
assess and compare performance among individuals and over
time. New products are under development for anesthesiology
and neurosurgical applications. Verefi also offers multidisciplinary
or single specialty consulting for simulation center development
and simulation continuing education.
